CBS News: Did Two Million Germans Just Vote to Put Neo-Nazis in Power?

It's Labor Day, so there's frankly not a lot of breaking news in the United States. However, there's big news coming out of Germany and the United Kingdom. Germany held elections on Sunday, and the "far-right" Alternative for Deutschland (AfD) Party, which won a landslide victory in Saxony-Anhalt with 44 percent of the vote, securing 39 of the 83 seats in the Saxony-Anhalt state parliament.

Do what this editor always recommends: go to CNN.com and search for the term "far-left." You'll get nine hits, and eight of them point to stories like, "What's behind Europe's swing to the far right?" and "How the far right is surging in Europe."

Here's the UN's ambassador for Germany.

Translated, that reads:

Election today in Saxony-Anhalt.

If AfD wins, I'll pack my suitcase and go back to Syria.

No empty words. A promise.

So, how is the media processing this victory for the AfD? The Associated Press notes that the party's win "has sparked alarm, including from Holocaust survivors."

- Set up a state-parliament inquiry into the COVID pandemic

How does any of this make him Germany’s most dangerous man exactly? He seems like someone who wants to save Germany and put Germany First

The video also mentions that Chancellor Friedrich Merz's party, which came in a distant second with 17 percent of the vote, is in trouble. Merz asks how Germany got to the point where the AfD could score a major victory:
