London Mayor Sadiq Khan Blames Black Professor's Suicide on 'Unacceptable Hounding and Abuse'

We haven't covered the Jason Arday story, but fortunately, our colleague Amy Curtis over at Townhall has. Arday was distinguished as the youngest black professor at Cambridge University in the U.K. He was a superstar, but then questions about plagiarism and his life story began to be raised. Curtis reports for Townhall:

Yesterday, we reported that Jason Arday, the youngest black professor at the University of Cambridge, was in the spotlight amid allegations of plagiarism and academic fraud, including the fabrication of parts of his life story. Arday said he ran 30 marathons in 35 days, that he didn't learn to read or write until he was 18 due to autism, and that he had to relearn his dissertation following brain surgery.

When Jack Grove, reporter with Times Higher Education (THE) reached out to Arday with questions as part of Grove's investigation, Arday went to police and claimed Grove had harmed his mental health. That launched a four-month investigation by Scotland Yard, and while the police found no wrongdoing, Grove was warned to stop contacting Arday. Arday's lawyers also sent a letter to THE and said the reporting on Arday was an "attack" and "racially motivated."

Now Arday has resigned his post, and it seems his resignation letter was AI-generated.

Arday was found dead on Friday, and London Mayor Sadiq Khan posted on Friday night that he was devastated, and that Arday "faced an unacceptable public hounding and campaign of abuse."

The post continues:

… simply wouldn’t have faced.

His death was a tragedy, but once again it should be a wake-up call for all of us.

What do you mean, "other people in his position simply wouldn't have faced"? Do you mean people who weren't DEI hires? Of course, progressives are making this out to be about racism. Here's a member of Parliament.

Of course, Khan has the replies turned off.

Our own Gordon K will have more on this story later, but for London's mayor to surreptitiously suggest that racism was to blame is outright irresponsible.
