Spending a few minutes contemplating what the federal government could or would do with 87,000 additional IRS employees helps explain why undoing such an action will be an immediate priority for House Minority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-California) and congressional Republicans, should they be elected to House and/or Senate majorities in the Midterm Elections.

Technically “agents” or not, Democrats clearly want to expand the IRS workforce. Meanwhile, Republicans view the nullification of such an expansion as an immediate priority.
Why does this (and similar actions) seem to be more than the standard Democrat power grab near election time? This is extreme government overreach at a key time politically. From the student loan bailout to the tax and spending smorgasbord that got named the “Inflation Reduction Act” to policies that work against U.S. energy independence to this and on and on, Democrats have helped themselves to big government and then some.
