MIT's LGBTQ alumni organization changes its name to … MIT Alumnx Pride

Yes, you read that right: alumnx. Writing on outdated letterhead that still uses MIT Alumni, MIT’s LGBTQ alumni organization, formerly known as MIT BGLATA, has changed its name to MIT Alumnx Pride “to more fully acknowledge and recognize all gender and sexual minorities.” Will MIT alumni enjoy the name as much as Hispanics love to be called Latinx? Will they follow the lead set by Northwest Missouri State University and celebrate Womynx History Month every March?

We realize they’re trying to do away with gendered language, but we’ll bet they all still say they have bachelor’s and master’s degrees from MIT. We’re honestly surprised there hasn’t been an effort to rename those yet, or maybe there has and we don’t know about it.

We don’t even know what that stands for, but at least Duke University, which uses LGBTQQIP2SAA, tells you what the letters stand for.

Maybe this was an April Fool joke that just started making the rounds on Twitter. Nope, we checked the website and they’re really going with alumnx. Seriously … alumnx? And in May they’re having 2022 Lavender Graduation … in the Rainbox Lounge. Seriously.
