Senator Ted Cruz might be one of the smartest people on Capitol Hill, but he made a bit of a boo-boo today by asking which of “our 43 American presidents” inspire his Twitter followers. Of course, there have been 44, counting President Obama — which our friends on the Left were giddy to point out.

It’s possible that Cruz meant to ask only about past presidents, or that it was simply a typo. Either way, he got some interesting responses from all 57 states.

Franklin Pierce? Not sure we would have picked that one — but he did have awesome hair.
