…." they might be more sympathetic with victims & with the effort to regulate guns. I meant this seriously– not ironically.

Er … was there anyone who believed famed author Joyce Carol Oates was being “ironic” when she tweeted, “If sizable numbers of NRA members become gun-victims themselves, maybe hope for legislation of firearms?” A classless and vile wish for ushering in gun control through violence against gun owners, sure. But ironic?
This one takes the faux-pology cake.
While we’re not convinced that the renowned literary maven actually gets what irony is, she does appear to have a solid grasp on absurdity and the construction of faulty analogies.
As John McCain is to torture, so a gun-victim would be to the unregulated use of guns by civilians.

@jetboy24 @JoyceCarolOates Good to know! But not so surprising really.

Maybe Sen. McCain just needs to have his plane shot down again to really learn his lesson, huh, Joyce?
Division in US over guns is–maybe–between those who think it's "fun" to shoot & sometimes kill–& those who just don't get it.

But by all means, weigh in on things you “don’t get.”
Have to confess, my father was the only man in our little community who never owned a gun, didn't hunt & thought hunting was ridiculous.

Maybe hunting, gun owning, shooting is essentially a family thing? You inherit the predilection & the passion? Like much religion?

The only thing that’s missing now is a little speculation that gun owners routinely murder in cold blood and blame shooting accidents. Wait for it …
Recalling my rural childhood & incidents of "gun accidents"–now I am wondering how many of these deaths were not accidental at all.

Despicable.
