In the wake of abortion laws being passed and signed in various states, many from around the entertainment and sports world have weighed in on the issue.
One of those is Carolina Panthers WR Torrey Smith, who said this.
I don’t believe in abortion. I also don’t think it’s my responsibility to determine what someone else should do. We use religion as the focal point of politics when it’s convenient.

To which former New Orleans Saints tight end and staunch advocate for life Benjamin Watson responded that the government already gets involved in numerous situations and activities that are deemed wrong by society.
Torrey. Respectfully, we wouldn’t use that argument for a number of other things. Substitute another word for abortion. Murder? speeding? Drunk driving? Stealing?
Or maybe something less significant would fit?
Recycling? Polka dots? White pants after Labor Day?

I don’t believe in it but I don’t think it’s the governments responsibility to interject. Even though it’s a small %. If a woman’s health is at risk or she was raped. Who am I to tell her what she needs to do with her body? With no woman there is no life. That’s her choice. https://t.co/0JjPpgX5yl

Watson says this really comes down to what life is and where it begins.
The govt interjects in countless situations in the US. Not the issue.
You tell plenty of people what they should do about their bodies and other’s bodies if you believe something isn’t right. Not the issue.
What constitutes life? That’s the issue. We work outward from there. https://t.co/cRPPF1Fytw

That’s fair. Who decides what life is from a government perspective? I know what you and I believe but who are we to decide for all? (I don’t believe in abortion. I’ll keep posting that so folks don’t get my thoughts twisted ?) https://t.co/DH5VQAsgtW

Understood lol.
The absolute truth about life is unchanging but throughout our history, govt has decided what life is through policy/pressure from the populace. (1964/5)
It is incumbent on us to present truth and encourage govt to reflect it.

And many Americans were shocked and appalled at the open celebration by New York lawmakers after passing a bill that allows babies to be aborted up to birth in that state.
