Judge Rosemarie Aquilina just wrapped up sentencing of Dr. Larry Nassar, the disgraced USA Gymnastics team doctor who pleaded guilty to 7 counts of criminal sexual conduct, and it’s a death sentence: Up to 175 years in prison:
Judge Aquilina: "Sir, I'm sentencing you to 175 years. I've just signed your death warrant." #LarryNassar

Judge Aquilina sentences former MSU and USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar to 40- 175 years in prison.
"you have done nothing to control those urges, and any where you walk you will be a danger," adds: "I just signed your death warrant." @wwjmiddays @WWJ950— Zahra (@zahrahuber25) January 24, 2018

The judge read a letter from Nassar where he attempted to justify his sexual assault as medically necessary treatments. Nassar blamed his victims, writing “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned”:
Larry Nassar: “I was a good doctor b/c my treatments worked & those patients who are now speaking out are the same ones that praised & came back over and over … the media convinced them everything I did was wrong. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.” https://t.co/gLERkXBwlL

The look on the judge’s face! SAVAGE:
For those who missed it. This is the look Judge Aquilina gave Larry Nassar after she finished reading that six page letter, where at one point he said "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorn." pic.twitter.com/W8qIKJmTTm

After reading the letter, Judge Aquilina said she “wouldn’t send my dogs to you, sir”:
Judge Aquilina to Nassar: "You did this for your pleasure. Your letter tells me that you … don't believe you have to listen. I wouldn't send my dogs to you, sir." #LarryNassar

She added that she doesn’t think rehabilitation is possible:
Judge Aquilina: “I find that you don't get it, that you're a danger. You remain a danger. I'm a judge who believes in life and rehabilitation when rehabilitation is possible … I don't find that's possible with you.” #LarryNassar https://t.co/ZiAIs5CDpT

And this is powerful: “…it was my honor and privilege to sentence you”:
Judge Aquilina, as she hands down Nassar's sentence: "As much as it was my honor and privilege to hear the sister survivors, it was my honor and privilege to sentence you. Because, sir, you do not deserve to walk outside of a prison ever again." pic.twitter.com/e4I4j2YIPi

Nassar won’t even be allowed to treat prisoners while serving his time:
#LarryNassar is treating people in prison. Judge Aquilina says: "You're not a doctor so I'm not sure how that's happening."

Judge Aquilina also waived court costs so that Nassar’s victims can take him for every damn cent he has to his name:
Larry Nassar's attorney says he's broke.
Judge Aquilina is demanding restitution to the victims for whatever he's got left. So she waives some of his court fees. "The victims need the money. The county will survive"
— Derek Wallbank (@dwallbank) January 24, 2018
That’s fantastic.
As far as future media appearances go, Judge Aquilina shut that down, too, unless the victims are the story and not her:
Judge Aquilina sentences Nassar to 40-175 years, says, re: all the media requests she's received, she won't go an interview without a survivor alongside her. "This is their story, not mine." #LarryNassar

She ended with a call for a “massive investigation” into how this could have happened for so long:
Aquilina calls for "a massive investigation" into why there was inaction and silence for a quarter century about Nassar's abuses.

She’s a treasure, that’s for sure:
If you’re wondering about this amazing judge: Judge Rosemarie Aquilina retired Honorably from the Michigan Army National Guard after 20 years of service. She became part of Michigan’s history by becoming the first female JAG Officer in the Michigan Army National Guard.
