CNN omits crucial detail in 'Good Samaritans' headline

So, this story from CNN popped up in our timeline…

Thankfully these Good Samaritans were there to save they day. And thankfully, one of them was armed — a detail which CNN omitted from its headline:

Two men attacked the 39-year-old mother as she was putting her baby in a car seat. They struck her in the back of her head, said Shawnee police Maj. Dan Tennis.
Hearing the mother’s screams, the good Samaritans rushed to help.
One of them, a 33-year-old Air Force veteran, was shot multiple times when one of the attackers, later identified as John W. Simmons III, pulled out a gun.
The second rescuer had a gun of his own and he fired back, killing Simmons, police said.
The baby wasn’t hurt.

So a good guy with a gun comes to the rescue … again. Why does CNN leave that out?

The wounded Good Samaritan remains unidentified, but his family did tell Fox 4 in Kansas City a little more about the hero’s background:

FOX 4 has learned the Good Samaritan is 33 years old, now working as a landscaper, and has a 15-year-old step-daughter.

They said the man joined the Air Force shortly after 9/11. They said he made his mom proud in his six years in the service in which he was deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan.

“He would’ve helped anybody,” his mother said. “It wouldn’t have mattered if they were old, or white, black, whatever. He would’ve done it for anybody.”

His wounds, however, are significant:

“We know parts of his left nostril was blown off and his face and upper left chest area are wounded,” the man’s father told FOX 4.

Awful.
