Mass shooting at Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks, CA; Suspected shooter dead; UPDATE

A mass shooting occurred at the Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks, Calif., this morning with reports now coming in that the suspected gunman is dead with 11 others shot, including a Ventura Country Sheriff’s Deputy:

#Borderline #ThousandOaks So far 11 confirmed victims including a VCSO deputy that was shot multiple times. When officers arrived they came under heavy fire and found numerous gunshot victims.

Authorities have not released the number of those killed, but they are saying “multiple fatalities”:

29-year veteran Sergeant Ron Helus died at the hospital following the mass shooting at a California bar.

He was among the first law enforcement officers to arrive at the scene and was shot multiple times while trying to enter the building. He was about a year from retirement. pic.twitter.com/CDqZxkH4PQ

UPDATE: 13 dead in total.
11 victims inside the bar. Ventura Sheriffs Sergeant Ron Helus died at the hospital, and the shooter is also dead.
Helus was a 29 year veteran looking to retire within the next year.@ABC7

According to reports, the gunman entered the country and western bar and opened fire, first on a bouncer at the door and then at other staffers before making his way inside:

The gunman may have thrown a smoke grenade of some sort inside the bar:
