WaPo’s fact checker ‘since 2011’, Glenn Kessler, released a fact check titled ‘The incendiary claim that George Soros funds Alvin Bragg’. The problem for Kessler is that the claim is undeniably true, and he got hilariously fact checked so hard by Twitter’s Community Notes that Twitter users were rolling with laughter.
Let’s allow all you tweeters to do what you do best: break this one down for us.
New #FactChecker -> The incendiary claim that George Soros ‘funds’ Alvin Bragg https://t.co/wQr4klYmkU
— Glenn Kessler (@GlennKesslerWP) April 1, 2023
First, there is the direct claim that Soros didn’t really fund Bragg’s campaign.
It's hilarious that the "fact-checker" needed to be fact-checked. https://t.co/NOijm8XofN pic.twitter.com/kg0VHWxokT
— Doug Powers (@ThePowersThatBe) April 1, 2023
Soros donated $1 million to a PAC and they donated to Bragg’s campaign. In every other discussion of political funding by big-money donors, EVER, this would be considered ‘funding his campaign’. Not so, when George Soros is the donor, because the Left believes they can shield those criticisms behind garbage smears of antisemitism (more on that later).
‘John got paid today.
He gave his wife, Jane, $40 to buy pizza and drinks for them and their children.
Jane went and bought the pizza.
John did not fund the pizza. Jane did.’ – Glenn Kessler fact check
We apologize for the grade school math class word problem flashbacks.
Your "fact check" got fact checked, you absolute soulless clown pic.twitter.com/gdXzovIZBk

For those who might not know, Community Notes are Twitter’s independent fact-checking mechanism, by which users can comment on a tweet, adding sources and context to point out wrong information. Most importantly, Community Notes must be voted on by other Community Notes contributors, who represent various viewpoints, before they are displayed to the public.

I think the best of all things is @GlennKesslerWP getting faced checked over his bogus fact check.
— Frank (@richardrahl1086) April 1, 2023
It really is delicious. LOL.
“Fact checker” neutralized by @CommunityNotes. What even is the point of you these days, Glenn?
— Nik Berlin 👊🏻🧐 (@spazafraz) April 1, 2023
There really is very little point in independent fact checkers on Twitter. A single person, like Kessler, brings his own biases to the process of vetting stories. Community Notes contributors do as well, but they have to check them and make a strong argument or the note will not be rated high enough to be displayed.
Helpful community note gives Glenn 4 Pinocchios https://t.co/2F9It82lof pic.twitter.com/CG4zJFgtDk
— Mimi (@MadMimi3) April 1, 2023
Enjoy those Pinocchios, Glen.
But wait … there’s more!
Twitter trolls who posted a "community note" to this tweet apparently have not read the actual fact check. Click the link and you will find that Color of Change did not spend $1 million in independent expenditures on Bragg, as people often claim. https://t.co/fCJVrCrvyW
— Glenn Kessler (@GlennKesslerWP) April 1, 2023
Kessler, obviously reeling from the virtual ratio beating he’s been taking, doubled down and blamed the Community Note entry on ‘Twitter trolls’.
LOLOLOL!
We have access to Community Notes, so we can tell you he’s getting fact checked on this tweet too! LOL.
Keep in mind what we’ve told you about how Community Notes work. Notes from trolls do not get displayed. If enough people in the community decide the note is accurate, it will receive enough positive ratings to be displayed. All we can tell you is that it is accurate:
They did, by the way, spend about half of the money on Bragg’s campaign.
Glenn Kessler is in the midst of a 5:1 ratio and its beautiful.
Soros: "I fund these guys!"
Kessler: "no you dont" https://t.co/RIz1ljMyns— Toell Nemesis (@ToellNemesis) April 1, 2023
It’s. So. Beautiful. Ha!
I mean, its not like Soros wrote an op-ed in the WSJ bragging about his support for radical prosecutors. pic.twitter.com/wSJmeU72Kt

This is hardly a secret, Mr. Kessler.

— e-beth (@ebeth360) April 1, 2023
Yeah, it must be like that.
The “incendiary claim” that is factually, provably, indisputably correct https://t.co/0W9eOxB1er
— Sunny McSunnyface (@sunnyright) April 1, 2023
Oh, yes, back to that ‘incendiary’ nonsense. What Kessler means is that nobody is allowed to point out that a rich and powerful progressive funds progressive Democrats if that person is George Soros, because Soros is Jewish.
The Left has been pushing the ‘criticizing Soros is antisemitic’ canard again for weeks. Kessler pulls the same stunt in this piece. It’s what you do when the facts aren’t on your side – you smear your opponents.
Leftists be like:
Republicans only care about tax cuts for billionaires! Screw the billionaires!
Billionaire CEOs make 400 times what the average worker makes! Screw the billionaires!
Billionaire Elon Musk is destroying democracy by taking over Twitter! Screw the billionaires!
Billionaire George Soros is funding progressive political campaigns! Hey! You can’t say that, you antisemite!
“Incendiary” 🤣🤣 🔥🔥
— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) April 1, 2023
Billionaire weighs in. LOL.
Kessler also claims that calling someone Soros-backed — when they are Soros-backed– is anti-Semitic. It's very convenient that no one is allowed to be critical of the top individual political donor in the nation. https://t.co/vWJFe0T5Cm
— David Harsanyi (@davidharsanyi) April 1, 2023
How convenient, indeed.
Lol. “Soros didn’t fund Bragg, he only gave money to a group who then gave that money to Bragg” is great journalism, Glenn
— Brett Daniels (@BrettDanielsBAL) April 1, 2023
Top notch, we’d say.
So with that logic Donald Trump never paid Stormy Daniels. pic.twitter.com/Xtukar8DHl

Haha! Pack it up, Alvin Bragg. Case closed.
Keep it up Glenn! pic.twitter.com/iwrjr0t0Ph

Bringing out one of the classics. We love it!
Sweet, sweet ratio! 😂👏🏻👏🏻 https://t.co/peVTIe7ZSy
— Kristi (@TheyCallMeNans) April 1, 2023
Yes it is. So good.
This tweet is going to show why community notes have become a significantly more reliable and trustworthy form of fact-checking relative to the spin delivered by media fact-checkers. https://t.co/c7Pk1RdXCd
— AG (@AGHamilton29) April 1, 2023
Glenn Kessler fact checking himself out of a fact checking job would be the funniest thing ever.
There it is. Stapled right to his forehead. https://t.co/gIPMEXYk6a pic.twitter.com/sWV6l6jfNJ

We wouldn’t want him to lose it.
