I'll kick this story off in a "how it started vs. how it's going" style in case you missed a bit of recent "entertainment" news.
How it started:
You know you wanted it. A thread of late night hosts reacting to the Trump verdict, most for the first time. Stephen Colbert: "This is a great job. And I love doing it...the news being what it is, sometimes I don't feel so great. But tonight I feel good!" (1/?) pic.twitter.com/K3FsaZZQEM

And the the "how it's going" part from yesterday:
STEPHEN COLBERT: “It’s not just the end of our show, but it’s the end of “The Late Show” on CBS. I’m not being replaced. This is all just going away.” pic.twitter.com/binFbrKkHS

Meanwhile, Trump is back in the White House and putting through his agenda with lightning speed.
Here's one more:

There was nothing more appropriate and fitting to the occasion than news of Colbert's cancellation coming on a night that Adam Schiff was a guest. And on the same day that PBS and NPR lost taxpayer funding? I can't stand much more "winning."
Because they wouldn't be real Democrats if Trump wasn't to blame for everything, that's exactly what's happening on the Left.
Schiff blamed Trump, and Sen. Elizabeth Warren sounds like if the Democrats take over the House they should add "Colbert canceled" to the list of impeachment charges:
CBS canceled Colbert’s show just THREE DAYS after Colbert called out CBS parent company Paramount for its $16M settlement with Trump – a deal that looks like bribery.

America deserves to know if his show was canceled for political reasons.
Watch and share his message. pic.twitter.com/Rz7HcWFLYM
Calm down, Dances With Identity Theft.
In a way, perhaps Colbert WAS canceled for political reasons. The politics on that show just don't resonate with most of the country, hence the fact that the "Late Show" (along with Kimmel and Fallon) get wrecked by Gutfeld in the ratings.
It probably has something to do with him not being funny, paleface.

The show was basically a late-night therapy session for TDS sufferers, and there's just not enough of a market for that:
🚨 LATE NIGHT TV RATINGS: For the second quarter of 2025:
— TV News Now (@TVNewsNow) July 18, 2025
1️⃣ Fox News’ @greggutfeld Gutfeld! averaged a huge 3.289 million viewers and 238,000 in the 18-49 demo.
2️⃣ CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert averaged 2.417 million and 219,000 viewers in the demo.

At this point Kimmel and Fallon might be more nervous than Liz Warren waiting for the results of her DNA test. What a week.
