Ottawa police say area travelers will be required to 'simply' explain something at any of 100 checkpoints

The Ottawa police have cleared out a trucker protest downtown. Arrests were made and vehicles were seized and towed:

Of those arrested, 103 were charged. The main charges are mischief and obstruct.

89 of them have been released with conditions that include a boundary they are not allowed to attend.

The others have been released unconditionally. https://t.co/nhlToZrJhc

Now the Ottawa police are alerting travelers to the city that they’ll be stopped at one of 100 checkpoints and should be prepared to explain themselves:

There are approximately 100 police checkpoints surrounding the secured area downtown. Police will simply ask for your reason for travelling within the area.

“Simply” provide the correct answer or risk having your bank accounts “simply” seized?

Papers please! It's for your own safety.#WelcomeToCanada #BlackfaceHitler https://t.co/v856ltGyrh

And then THEY will decide for you if you are allowed to freely walk the public streets. Are you worthy? Are your papers in order? Is your reason “good enough”? “None of your business” will not be an acceptable answer. https://t.co/E7NVAZR8aK

It’s disturbing.

The adverb "simply" tells you everything that you need to know about this now-infamous account. https://t.co/xi3VgRbnkR

Anyone watch the handmaid tale? https://t.co/P8pwdTHCy5

Checkpoints… masks. Yep, they’ve got that “Handmaid’s Tale” thing covered.

Also, truckers can’t shut down roads that the police have already shut down:

Ottawa drivers: there will be several road closures around Ottawa today that may impact getting around the city.
