Former interim DNC chair and CNN contributor Donna Brazile was fired from the cable news network after admitting that she leaked a town hall question to the Hillary Clinton campaign. Vox’s Matt Yglesias and Politico Magazine’s Blake Hounshell are arguing that it isn’t fair to lay the blame on CNN:

Right. "CNN" didn't leak debate questions. Donna Brazile leaked one debate question, and was cut loose for it. https://t.co/BRoYwNnhMZ

… also, it was a town hall, and Brazile was fed a question about water quality in Flint from someone at a CNN partner, TV One. https://t.co/QJwv5loD7K

Well then, is this a more accurate way to put it?

Had a Fox News contributor been fired after getting exposed for leaking a debate question to a GOP candidate it’s unlikely any media figures would make a similar argument:

Um …. Exactly how does "cut loose for it" help your argument than she didn't work for #CNN again? https://t.co/rmaZW6GyZ9

Whose payroll was Brazile on at the time again? Oh yeah, it was @CNN's. https://t.co/NM4rTTTLt6
