Following reports of problems with the U.S. government’s nuclear weapons infrastructure, Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel confirmed an element to that story:
In response to question from @CBSDavidMartin, DefSec Hagel confirms 3 bases with 450 missiles had to share a single wrench.

How did 3 missile bases share one wrench, asked Martin? "They did it by Federal Expressing it from base to base," said Hagel.

But there is help on the way:
Hagel said "we're going to have two wrenches for each base soon."

@markknoller @CBSDavidMartin no Home Depot/Lowes/Sears Hardware nearby? Or is it a special 1MM$ kinda wrench? This is insane.

@markknoller @CBSDavidMartin There are NO words for this! Simply ridiculous!

@markknoller please tell me you're just having us on?
— “Yorktanan”❌ (@yorktanan) November 14, 2014
@markknoller If that is true, then that is beyond ridiculous.They spend $bils on unnecessary things, but they cant purchase proper wrenches?

@markknoller @JimmyPrinceton Sadly, that has the ring of truth, judging from my own logistical experiences.

@count_01 that's hilarious.
— Jimmy (@JimmyPrinceton) November 14, 2014
@JimmyPrinceton Contracting. Only so much stuff can be manufactured in-house without violating contracting rules, so sooner or later…

@count_01 yay bureaucracy!
— Jimmy (@JimmyPrinceton) November 14, 2014
@JimmyPrinceton Yep. The open market might provide, but can't; the internal market could provide, but isn't allowed to. Against regs.

We’re afraid to ask if there’s a hammer and screwdriver available at each base.
