We know that the Nobel Peace Prize is a joke, having been awarded to President Barack Obama before he started his drone campaign just for being elected, and this year it was awarded to Navi Pillay, "the South African judge who established sexual violence and rape as acts of genocide and concluded that Israel has committed genocide in Gaza." But not Gaza in Israel, right?
Also awarded this week was the 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature, which went to poet Anne Carson. The New Yorker published a couple of her pieces.

My personal poetry is a failure.
I do not want to be a person.
I want to be unbearable.
Lover to lover, the greenness of love.
Cool, cooling.
Well, she's unbearable, and her personal poetry is a failure. I guess the committee awards points for accuracy?

@NewYorker Haha very funny. Now show us the real poetry that won. ::pause:: Wait, you mean that is real?

@NewYorker That’s hot garbage. How far poetry has fallen.
— Lady Demosthenes (@LadyDemosthenes) October 9, 2026
@NewYorker Sorry. It's garbage. I could ask Chat GPT to throw together 150 random words and craft something better.

I confess to being an English major, and I was exposed to a lot of garbage. I was also exposed to some exceptional poetry, as in a graduate class on Keats and Yeats. It is my academic opinion that chicks can't write poetry.

@NewYorker I like my poem better: I ate a pickle Over under dogwood trees No one can hear me My thyroid reminds the garden That my sex forever is dungeon bound, The Prom is never more. Oh, what a world Oh, what a world The Prom is never more

@NewYorker It used to be that the pretentious elite at least sometimes gave us art of unmistakable cultural value, even if by accident. Now it's just this slop, all the time.

@NewYorker An alleged poet named Carson Decided to put a big farce on. Conned the Nobel Committee that her verses were witty, And The New Yorker to show its fat arse on.
— Big Jarhead (@big_jarhead) October 9, 2026
@NewYorker This poem sucks. This poem fucks. This poem does not rhyme. This poem wasted my time. Shove an orange up my ass. Now my cheeks squeak louder than a rusty door hinge. Fresh-squeezed cheeks, no pulp, all gas

@NewYorker It is good to be nougat. Balls smashed with hammer. The author cries after sex. My Honda smells somewhat funny. --- Do I get a nobel prize? I'll take Miss Congeniality.

@NewYorker In other news, the Nobel Prize in Literature, which once honored W.B. Yeats, Ernest Hemingway, Rudyard Kipling, T.S. Eliot, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, Winston Churchill, John Steinbeck and many other actually great writers, has been infiltrated from the left and now has no meaning.

@NewYorker Like garbage floats on a sea of breeze Lacklustre, random, scathing Hardship, toil and other words Dark, descending, woke, painful Now more tripe and floating garbage And thankfully, the end.

@NewYorker The deliberate uglification of all things beautiful is meant to demoralize. This is trash and we know you know it. We do not accept.

After putting you through that, I thought I'd send you into Sunday with some positive news I ran across, courtesy of David Hogg's gun-grabbing group, March for Our Lives:
The United States has more guns in civilian hands than every military in the world combined.
