PA Gov. Josh Shapiro Says He's Suing to Stop 'Unconstitutional' Attempt to Restrict Mail-In Voting

As this editor recently reported, Judge Indira Talwani on Thursday lifted her Wednesday injunction blocking President Donald's executive order on mail-in ballots, one day after she had defied the Supreme Court's ruling on Monday that the executive order was constitutional. The EO, "Ensuring Citizenship Verification and Integrity in Federal Elections," signed on March 31, requires DHS to reference federal databases to create state-by-state lists of verified citizens eligible to vote and instructs the Postal Service to adopt ballot-tracking mechanisms and identifiers for mail-in ballot envelopes.

As we reported on Tuesday, California Gov. Gavin Newsom said that his state would be suing again, and on Thursday, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro indicated that he'd be suing the Trump administration to stop its "unconstitutional attempt" to restrict mail-in voting … to those eligible.

… elections. I’m prepared to do so again.

Nothing about voting by mail has changed here in Pennsylvania. You can still vote safely and securely by mail.

While Donald Trump may try to inject chaos into our elections, the Constitution is clear: the authority to set election rules belongs to the states — not the federal government.

You can still vote safely and securely by mail; more securely, in fact, under Trump's EO, which would have the Postal Service put unique serialized barcodes on both the outgoing and return envelopes.

The Supreme Court said it was constitutional.

The EO would prohibit the Postal Service from delivering mail-in ballots to people who aren't verified to be eligible.

We're sure there are other blue-state governors who will sue. They're trying to prolong this until the first mail-in ballots go out without the new tracking system implemented. If they can just delay it until after the midterms.

Editor’s Note: Republicans are fighting for election integrity by requiring proper identification to vote. It's common sense, yet Democrats are spreading lies about the impact of such a measure.
