As our own Grateful Calvin reported earlier on Saturday, independent journalist Nick Shirley claimed he and his crew had uncovered over $190 million in fraud through adult and personal home care scams in New York City. When Shirley did the same in California, the state assembly tried to pass what critics of Gov. Gavin Newsom nicknamed the Stop Nick Shirley Act. The governor's press office made memes of Shirley pressed up against the glass of daycare centers while strapped with dozens of cameras.
Rep. Thomas Massie used to be one of our favorites, but unfortunately, it seems the TDS has gotten to him. Rather than praise Shirley for exposing hundreds of millions in fraud, Massie posted that it was hard to take him seriously until he started to call out Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, Senate Majority Leader John Thune, and President Donald Trump for funding the daycare fraud.
Hard to take @nickshirleyy seriously until he starts calling out Johnson, Thune, and Trump for funding the daycare fraud in every Omnibus and CR bill with no guardrails. https://t.co/FF8nz2RqFP

A 20-something did citizen journalism that drastically increased popular awareness of endemic fraud among insular immigrant communities, and which directly led to crackdowns on it, and Massie is bashing him because he’s not whining about Trump instead.

What a loser. https://t.co/iGNfA8mWJ3
What a disappointment you’ve become, Mr. Massie. Mostly I’m disappointed in myself for championing you in the past. What a fool I was. I know better now.
— Shkay-Pop (@Shaybop69) August 15, 2026
Keep up the great work, Mr. Shirley!
You wouldn’t even be talking about the daycare fraud if it weren’t for Nick. Calm down.
— Not the Bee (@Not_the_Bee) August 15, 2026
It's hard to take you seriously, when you were/are in a place of power, and all you do is spout b.s. and have done absolutely nothing to help American citizens out.
— Khaylee (@RealKhaylee) August 15, 2026
You have always been about one thing: Thomas Massie.
At least Nick tries. You don't do shit.

I’ll never understand why cowardly Republicans beg Gen Z to get involved then tear them down when they sacrifice to join the fight.

Nick is the future. You’re starting retirement.
Weird take. I am grateful that he is doing the very important and hard work of exposing it...thats the first step. Nick Shirley isn't responsible for the political leaders in our country.
— Vagabond (@ScrutonsHair) August 15, 2026
I think Nick is doing great work. Congress needs to pay attention to what he is saying. In fairness to Nick he did go in front of the House and Senate to testify. They didn’t listen. pic.twitter.com/zso7VZ4ap8

Imagine ripping a kid who has done more than any of your morons whose job it is to catch the fraud. No wonder you're spiraling into obscurity

Reminder that Thomas Massie voted yes, to suspend the debt limit under Joe Biden that led to the explosion in fraud. pic.twitter.com/CyH3yMdsgW

Jesus man.

I took your side for a long time.
But if you think Nick is the problem, youve lost the plot.
Hard to take you seriously when you still haven’t read the non-existent list of names that you never had.
— Null (@ItsNull69) August 15, 2026
This is why you lost. You’re an eternal crybaby, this kid has done more in a year than you’ve done your entire career.

Go dress up in flannel and haul your ass back up to Maine to cuddle and cry with Tucker some more
Wow. Now you're attacking the most effective citizen journalist to exposed massive social services fraud in my memory.
— War for the West (@War4theWest) August 15, 2026
I don't think you see how vicious you've become. It's quite strange.
C'mon, man. He is only one who has bothered to get and publish the evidence until recently. He has no power except his voice. No one, even you, showed the evidence before. He's putting the spotlight on. Don't belittle it.

Neither Trump nor anyone in Congress, including Massie, would be talking about fraud if Shirley hadn't gotten the ball rolling.
Shirley replied:
In other words “Why can’t a 24 yr old solve all the government’s spending problems?”
— Nick shirley (@nickshirleyy) August 15, 2026
You people in DC are a large part of the problem. All you do is complain and whine on 𝕏 while your job is to actually work for us.
I’ve exposed and saved America billions. What have you done? https://t.co/3n7eoxgt3k
Keep going, Nick. Massie is just bitter and trying to throw anything at the wall to see if it sticks on his way out. He’s looking a lot like Cornyn right now, destroying their own legacies. Let them!
— Kylie Jane Kremer (@KylieJaneKremer) August 15, 2026
Funny how the elected official with legal power is calling you out for failure to act.
— American Citizen (@paisnano) August 15, 2026
Massie loves pointing fingers at everyone else while the same broken spending machine keeps rolling under his watch.
— B’s Spin🐝 (@BsSpin) August 15, 2026
Easy to lecture from the sidelines when you’ve been in the room the whole time.
Massie said in a follow-up post that he appreciates Shirley's work, but it sure doesn't sound like it.
