Jennifer Welch Gets a Glow-Up to Debate Trump's Dementia With Scott Jennings

Twitter

CNN's Abby Phillip really knows how to scrape the bottom of the barrel for guests for CNN NewsNight. I remember the time she dragged on conspiracy theorist Joy Reid after she'd been cast off of MSNBC for being a liability. But then I saw this clip in which Scott Jennings is sitting next to podcaster Jennifer Welch, who, I have to admit, owes the CNN makeup team a huge thank you for transforming the dried husk she appears as on her podcast. Seriously, they did an amazing job. They took years—decades—off of her withered face. I remember when it came out that ABC News anchor Peter Jennings had a special filter put on the lens of his camera to smooth out his face—something similar has to be going on here.

CNN always can be counted on for the thoughtful chyrons, such as this one: "Is America on a fast track toward autocracy?" The clip's cut too tight for us to hear what Welch had to say about January 6, which was worse than Pearl Harbor and 9/11 combined, but she did claim President Donald Trump obviously has dementia, and cites his attempt to perform oral sex on a microphone as proof.

Come on, CNN. Do better. Then again, Jennings is right—keeping Welch talking might be a good strategy for the Republicans.

Someone tell her that video of Trump and the microphone was a cheap fake—people will buy that.

She seems to have come out of nowhere, but apparently she and her podcast co-host were featured on Bravo's Real Housewives of Oklahoma or something like that.

Not only that, but the stuff she says.

CNN, knowing full well what they were signing up for, booked this woman on purpose. By all means, make her the face of the Democrat Party—without the CNN makeup team and their wizardry.
