NEW: Florida has its first LGBTQ+ sanctuary city

AP Photo/Manuel Balce Ceneta

I'd been assured that anyone who's LGTBQ+ and had the means moved out of Florida already, unable to live under the fascist dictatorship of Gov. Ron DeSantis. GLAAD or some other group issued a travel advisory … after all, you can be put in jail just for saying "gay."

The Hill reports that Florida now has its first LGBTQ+ sanctuary city, so if your 14-year-old needs a double mastectomy to save her life, she can get it in Florida. At least in … Lake Worth Beach.

The Hill reports:

Lake Worth Beach Mayor Betty Resch vowed to work with the city council to create a plan of action supporting LGBTQ+ people and helping them feel safe.

“This is a crucial time for all of us to come together and stand in unity that the city is publicly making a statement, in black and white, and a resolution that it is a safe city for all of its residents,” Julie Seaver, Executive Director of Compass LGBTQ+ Community Center, told WPTV.

"Making a statement" is right. Should LGBTQ+ people flock to Lake Worth Beach for jobs and housing, where they'll be protected against DeSantis supporters?

Again, the media will cover this — this performative, unnecessary gesture from a tiny town that will produce nothing and require nothing from the residents.
