Look, this editor has no love for the mob that carried tiki torches through Charlottesville in 2017. That photo of the one dork holding his tiki torch at the front of the pack gave the Left material to attack the Right for months. Just a search of our archives for “Charlottesville” brings up dozens of posts, because every liberal did what they could to use it to paint all Republicans — especially President Trump — as white supremacists, even though it was quickly condemned by Trump and other high-profile Republicans. Joe Biden even made mention of the Charlotteville hoax — the idea that Trump has said the neo-Nazis were “very fine people” — central to his video announcing his candidacy.
However …
That was in 2017. Now it’s 2023, and the Washington Post is reporting that they’ve found a charge they can use to indict at least three men involved in the rally.
At least three men who marched with blazing tiki torches at the 2017 white supremacist rally in Charlottesville are now facing criminal charges, according to indictments unsealed this week.https://t.co/I44C9Z3HHZ

“Prosecutors allege the torch carriers violated a rarely enforced criminal statute, which makes it a crime to burn objects with intent to intimidate”
Show me the man and I’ll find you a crime
— Zach (@someguywcancer) April 20, 2023
That took a long time.

Doubt they have the resources to fight it, and the ACLU only cares about leftist causes now, but this is quite clearly a violation of the First Amendment. Everyone has a right to peacefully assemble, and "burning objects" (the tiki torches) in this case is protected speech.

Ahhh yes, the “tiki torch statute”. On the books, just in case…

You might not like their speech, but their speech is protected nonetheless. This is yet another example of a democrat prosecutor weaponizong the Justice system to punish political opponents. This is what “fascist” regimes do.

Is it a crime to carry a Home Depot tiki torch?
— Verden Fell (@fell_verden) April 18, 2023
That’s what prosecutors will try to prove in court.
What's the charge? Disagreement with the narrative in the 1st degree?

I don't like what these people stand for but this seems like a reach. Did we arrest people in Portland for throwing firebombs? "For carrying flaming torches with the intent to intimidate".https://t.co/2jlFIomAm2

You can burn and loot cities.
But don't you dare carry a tiki torch.

Talk about taking your time to indict them. It's almost like they were saving it for the 2024 election.

Again, we have no love for these guys, but to wait six years to indict them for trying to intimidate with burning tiki torches? The tiki torches were just stupid.
How’s the release of Audrey Hale’s manifesto coming?
