Some hope surveillance cameras can track down vandal who left tire tracks on pride flag

OK, so pride flags painted on the street are a thing. Way back in 2017, local media reported that an intersection in midtown Atlanta had been graced with permanent rainbow pride flag crosswalks … at a cost of $196,000. There’s a problem, though, with painting your pride colors on the street … people are going to drive over them. In 2018, a pride crosswalk in Hamilton, Ontario was apparently vandalized, so it’s an international problem:

In 2021, we reported that a man in Florida faced felony charges for doing a tire burn-out on a crosswalk that had been painted for Pride Month. And now we’re learning that another pride flag has been defaced with tire tracks in Florida. Here’s Sun-Sentinel reporter Susannah Bryan:

This reminds us of all the photo-ops of then-New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio pitching in to paint “Black Lives Matter” on city streets. De Blasio declared that one block would become pedestrian-only for the summer to preserve the BLM mural from tire tracks. That’s kind of the chance you take when you paint on the street.

President Biden should fly down there and visit the site.

That’s not a bad question.

You can burn an American flag, but you can’t leave tire tracks on a pride flag … that’s painted on the road.

Let’s hope surveillance cameras track down the homophobe who did this, so they can make him also write an essay about the hate that gay people face.
