This tweet has caught some attention although it’s nothing special at all. We’ve heard it before: Earth was in perfect balance with the indigenous people, and then white colonists came along and destroyed everything. White Europeans invented imperialism in fact. As Christopher Rufo has pointed out, plenty of schools are teaching elementary school students that their white colonialist ancestors created the gender binary and forced it upon the native peoples, who happily embraced the “two-spirited” among them.
Everything was going great — indigenous women were having abortions on demand with no apology — until the whites showed up. University of Colorado Denver lecturer Simon Moya-Smith explains:
Before white people came to this land, there were no jails, no homelessness, no laws against homosexuality or abortion. For thousands of years, Indigenous peoples emphasized health, housing, freedom to love who you love and the fact that we need Mother Earth. She doesn’t need us.
