First … The Daily Beast? OK.
Second, the professional journalists who awarded each other Pulitzer Prizes for their work examining the Steele Dossier and the Trump campaign’s collusion with Russia are still in a huff over Elon Musk switching things up so not only celebrities and politicians and journalists can enjoy that blue check that means they’re verified.
Shannon O’Connor (she/they) just lays it out there: “citizen journalism” is bad.
Not sure who needs to hear this (Elon) but “citizen journalism” is bad and should not be elevated. Look at how much worse “citizen journalism” made the Boston bombing aftermath (and that’s just one example).
There’s a reason why we go to school for years for this profession…

All legitimate news organizations have fact checkers and editors so that false and misleading information isn’t given to the public. Just because you don’t like what is being reporting, doesn’t mean it’s false.
“Citizen journalism” has no system of checks and balances.
— Shannon O'Connor (@ShannonOConnor0) November 11, 2022
“Legitimate” news organizations have fact-checkers, like the one who smeared a combat-wounded U.S. Marine working for ICE as a Nazi because she misidentified his tattoo. She was fired and eventually went to work for the “legitimate” news organization Media Matters. Or the fact-checkers who completely overlook that President Joe Biden has lied multiple times about his son Beau dying in Iraq? The fact-checkers who tackled satire sites like The Babylon Bee? How about the New York Times editors who ignored requests from multiple historians asking for prominent corrections to the Pulitzer-winning “1619 Project”? The editors of all the papers who didn’t report the Hunter Biden laptop story because it was “Russian disinformation”? The editors that passed on Planned Parenthood execs haggling over the price of body parts on video? We could go on forever.
Of course, this legitimate reporter limited her replies.
Good lord, you hapless, ridiculous quisling.

You went to school to be a bunch of activists and liars? Weird thing to spend money on, but okay, you do you. https://t.co/0IFKy4tKUy

No one… No one needed to hear this.
All that Daily Beast "clout" and pronouns in your bio still won't make your unseasoned writing any more readable or your woeful aesthetics more palatable.

Citizen journalism allows people to check *all* the facts, not just the ones you want checked. "Professional journalists" did plenty of their own egregious reporting around the Boston bombing (and that's just one example), so spare me your tears. https://t.co/dL461dF7K0

Wow. I've recorded 45+ years in this industry but this level of arrogance astounds me. @ShannonOConnor0 uses the very media she hates to spit her ignorance, then disables replies. That's why we revile MSM and their authoritarian-progressive bubbles. See list for MSM victories. https://t.co/gOm5TIJhyh pic.twitter.com/nHoQrXXLan

Remember when “legitimate” news organization VICE hired journalist Tom Arnold to track down the Trump pee-pee tape?
If you went to school for years to do what you do, why are you so bad at it? Journalists have gotten just about EVERYTHING wrong since 2001. https://t.co/HVjAi2va3o

One of the most dishonest things I have ever read. Profound lack of self awareness mixed with unfounded and gratuitous self regard and elitism. And not surprisingly from someone who writes at the Daily Beast. https://t.co/ZV7TiIccOu

The reason you go to school for journalism is so academia can turn you into brainwashed little democrat operatives who wouldn't report the truth if it smacked you in the keyboard. https://t.co/48Ba2OuDLT

😆🤣😆🤣 I went to college to be a journalist. I had one professor bluntly say “this isn’t necessary.” Journalism isn’t a profession in that there’s no test or certification to prove you are capable. It’s a 4 year BA. A citizen journalist has the same qualifications as anyone. https://t.co/DBf4lzjOS4
— Becca C. (@AchtungBecca) November 12, 2022
We saw right here on this website that most professional journalists have no issue with being censored for political purposes (as long as they’re the “right“ politics).
I am not interested in complaints about “citizen journalism” from “professionals” who are okay with that. https://t.co/XACoNrakRx

The ratio goes on forever; it’s no wonder she limited replies. What a ridiculous person. We’re old enough to remember before the World Wide Web and sites like The Daily Beast existed, and we had to rely on network anchors like Dan Rather to tell us the facts.
