I was on deck the night of the 2016 election, and it wasn’t until around 3 a.m. that the networks started calling the election for Donald Trump. It’s obvious they didn’t want to, and there was a long stretch of silence after Hillary Clinton’s inevitable win didn’t seem so inevitable anymore. So we sat and waited. Oh, and supposedly a water pipe burst in Atlanta so they had to delay the count.
I’ve lived through a lot of elections, and I don’t remember them taking days to call. Of course, there was the 2000 election, with its hanging chads and pregnant chads and other nonsense. And there are still election deniers on the Left who think the presidency was stolen from Al Gore.
Social media is helping this year, which is surprising, because this is a midterm election and those aren’t normally so closely watched. Republicans are leading in all of the issues that are most important to voters and are likely to gain majorities in the Senate and House.
We’re also being told, though, that it might be more like Election Week than Election Day. Twitter is reminding us all that it takes time to count all of the votes. Again, it never seemed to be a problem before getting all of the numbers in on election night.
So we’re starting this shit again I see pic.twitter.com/juwUZU0ATC

We’re still encountering unconfirmed claims that Stacey Abrams won her race in 2018.
I propose that every elementary school in the country be the one-day voting location. Then the third graders of said schools count the votes.

How come the good people of Brazil can tally their votes in one night but we can’t?

Seems like it never took 'time' until 2000.

Don’t worry, they are just fortifying the election.

We used to be able to do it election night, as is still done in many other countries—some of whom are considered third world. Where does that put us?

it takes time to create more ballots

Remember when people went to their polling place on election day, voted, and the local officials had all the votes counted by 10 p.m.?

So, it's a great offense to democracy to be an election denier. But… it is a great service to all of humankind to be a "pre-election" denier. When logic hops over a lane divider.

Yep. But in 15 minutes or less we know where and how many lotto tickets were sold. Never forget pic.twitter.com/jyquS8N4cf

One day this country will have some sort of digital technology that can count faster than all those little old ladies down at the rec center

It never took this long in the 1980s. Why have we gone backwards?

Why are we being prepped to wait up to a week to find out who won, and warned not to spread any “disinformation” before the results are confirmed?
