MSNBC columnist says Dr. Mehmet Oz 'just gave a masterclass on how to bully people with disabilities'

OK, so we’re all in agreement now that Pennsylvania Senate candidate John Fetterman is disabled, right? Not physically disabled, but mentally disabled. Cool.

We just did a post on The Daily Beast’s Matt Lewis saying Tuesday night’s debate would make him more likely to vote for Fetterman, because Dr. Mehmet Oz ran the risk of coming across as a bully. Actually, Oz came across as eloquent and erudite and prepared. He came ready to debate, while Fetterman’s campaign (and the media) spent the day lowering expectations, saying that Fetterman was never a great debater and was better at doing things like shaking hands.

We present as evidence of Lewis’ theory Liz Plank, a feminist and columnist for MSNBC. Plank watched the debate and concluded that Oz “gave a masterclass on how to bully people with disabilities.”

This was a retweet of Plank’s earlier piece on MSNBC called, “Oz bullies Fetterman for missing debates due to stroke.” And Fetterman came out of the gate practically begging for sympathy:

If the media were doing their jobs, instead of piling on the one NBC News reporter who dared report that Fetterman needed closed captioning because of audio processing issues, they would have made Fetterman’s condition clear so that the Oz campaign didn’t need to bring up the very obvious.

Plank again: “If having a hearing impairment disqualifies someone from holding office, are we living up to the promise of democracy?”

Hearing loss. Well, not actually hearing loss, but a problem processing spoken words. You could read about it in his medical records, but he made it clear during the debate that he would not be releasing his medical records.
