Last month, Republican Mayra Flores won a special election in Texas and flipped a long-time blue House seat red. Here’s what she had to say at the time:
I am the first Mexican-born American Congresswoman ever elected in congress and I won’t allow the far left to take that away because it doesn’t fit their narrative.

They did try to take it away from her, though. The New York Times, the same paper that gave Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez rock star treatment, took a close look at Flores and “the rise of the far-right Latina.” CNN’s only now getting around to it, but Raul A. Reyes has written that Flores is not the “real deal.”
"Our country needs Latinos who reflect their communities, reject conspiracy theories and respect democracy," writes Raul A. Reyes | Opinionhttps://t.co/HiBbAxR7Uo

As per CNN: I'm not the real deal

She was elected by the community she represents, was she not? This whole premise is false.

Maybe they do reflect their community

"…these Latinas hold conservative positions on abortion, gun control and immigration.
"That's just not where most Latinos are these days."

Thanks for both mansplaining and speaking for the entire Latino population.
The day after the "breakfast taco" fiasco, CNN goes with this. This has strong "you ain't Latinx unless you vote democrat" vibes to it.

Mayra Flores is the “Real Deal”. Get used to it. Free thinking, diverse, belief in God and family. The mind set of most Hispanics.

Looks like a fine taco to me.
Conservative women of color scare Democrats and the media.

Don't worry, Congresswoman Flores. You're not alone. They say the same thing about black conservatives like me.
— Darrell B. Harrison (@D_B_Harrison) July 12, 2022
You’re the REAL DEAL!

"If you don't vote for me, you ain't black."
If you're a conservative Latina you're not the real deal.
I'm sensing a pattern here

All I know from all this is that you are representing yourself and other Latinos with respect and dignity. Keep strong. We are rooting for you.

Thanks for publishing that warning, CNN.
