Our opinion is that it was awfully crass of Texas gubernatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke to crash a news conference and try to turn it into a campaign stop with an impromptu debate with Gov. Greg Abbott. Abbott and the rest were there to update the community on everything they knew about the Robb Elementary School shooting, and O’Rourke was there to grandstand on the backs of dead children.
HuffPost’s Daniel Marans was there and talked to Cody Ytuarte, who had a cousin who was shot but survived. Ytuarte explained why he interrupted O’Rourke’s interruption of the news conference.

Ytuarte also said he enjoyed Donald Trump’s mean tweets:

Ytuarte’s grandparents immigrated from Mexico. He doesn’t speak much Spanish. And like many rural South Texans, he is very hawkish on undocumented immigration.

And he’s the kind of person whom O’Rourke is going to have to win over to even have a prayer of beating Abbott, and O’Rourke didn’t do himself any favors today in that regard.
