That’s a pretty serious accusation by the Associated Press. Apparently, the story is that Elon Musk “revels in contradiction,” but we don’t see how that relates in any way to the AP’s tweet:
Elon Musk boasts that he’s acquiring Twitter to defend freedom of speech. But he has long used the platform to attack those who disagree with him.https://t.co/qhgm1zQOkz

What? Freedom of speech doesn’t include disagreement? That’s a contradiction? We need explanations, AP:
This week Musk is again keeping people guessing. First he embraced a European measure to keep hate speech and misinformation off social media. Less than 24 hours later, he announced that he’d reverse Twitter’s ban of former President Donald Trump, who was kicked off the platform for inciting violence.
…
Musk boasts that he’s acquiring Twitter to defend freedom of speech. But he has long used the platform to attack perceived foes who dare to disagree with him.
He is supremely confident in his own judgment and abilities. But he has openly acknowledged vulnerabilities, disclosing his angst over a breakup in a 2017 interview with Rolling Stone and telling a Saturday Night Live audience last year that he was the show’s first host with Asperger’s syndrome.
“… those who dare to disagree with him.”

Elon Musks *claims* to be in free speech, yet argues with those who disagree with and attack him. Checkmate!

Astonishing how confused people are about free speech.

Although it's difficult to imagine, this tweet actually made sense to someone at AP.

This is a joke right?

This can't be real. Do you … understand what free speech means?
— Kyle Raccio (@kyleraccio) May 11, 2022
Shorter version: AP is not familiar with the concept of "free speech."

Between thinking criticising someone violates free speech and thinking a bill defeated by a vote of 51-49 in the Senate was "filibustered" it's not been a great day for you guys, has it?

Musk is just a mystery wrapped in an enigma. Here’s the AP’s conclusion:
Musk, who waxes about preserving Twitter as the public square of the internet, hasn’t addressed what he’d do if his efforts to open it to more voices wind up jeopardizing its accessibility.
Then again, the billionaire has never been one to shy away from a contradiction.
So opening it up to more voices might jeopardize Twitter’s accessibility. Contradictions everywhere.
