Imagine selecting the first men who would walk on the moon. The Washington Post seems to be in a similar position, looking for a reporter based in Texas, “a region shaped by conservative ideology.” It’s nice that the Post is looking outside of its bubble a little bit, but we remember the mainstream media getting a lot of blowback after Donald Trump won the election and reporters ventured into rural diners to talk to these “Trump voters.” None of their readers or viewers wanted to hear anything about those people; they knew all they needed to know.
We note that the job description says the correspondent will “illuminate the forces driving political polarization,” which we take to mean investigating why these red-staters are causing so much trouble for liberals.
Job posting: The Washington Post is looking for an enterprising reporter based in Texas to document life in red state America and develop a new beat mapping the culture, public policies and politics in a region shaped by conservative ideology.https://t.co/CJS99O8kg7

Tell us you're out of touch with a sizable portion of America without telling us you're out of touch with a sizable portion of America.

Nothing conservative about politics in Houston, Dallas, Austin, El Paso or San Antonio. This must be a small town Texas posting…

A lot of people in the replies are really butthurt about this job posting, as they’ve heard plenty about the people in red states; there are a few hundred variations on this theme:
Gonna go interview some fascists in diners and tell us all about how reasonable their concerns are?
