Randi Weingarten assures us that masks are one of the best tools we have to keep kids safe

Earlier this week, American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten praised a new collaboration with Newsguard to help students across the country identify misinformation. It’s ironic, then, that Weingarten, who assured us her union had been trying to open schools since April of 2020, is posting this about masks. We’re old enough to remember when teachers were writing their own obituaries because they were afraid that they were going to catch COVID-19 from their students, who were at little risk because of their age.

Now Weingarten is telling us that masks are one of the best tools we have to keep kids safe, even though CNN’s medical analyst recently called the cloth masks that kids have been wearing for 18 months “little more than facial decoration.” No, kids are supposed to be wearing N95 masks throughout the school day, every day.

You’ll note that all of the replies are quote tweets because as with her previous post, she shut down comments.

There’s New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, who mandated masks for children age 2 and up at licensed daycare centers, not wearing a mask.

Ratio Randi … we’re stealing that.

Nobody can cook up a ratio on Twitter like Weingarten. We skipped over the tweets saying she should be jailed or flogged — these were the polite replies.
