As Twitchy has reported, there have already been mass terminations at employers who mandate that their employees get the COVID-19 vaccine. Salon is all for firing people who don’t get the jab, and as the tweet reads (nice photo, too), “Trump fans are overdue for a lesson in consequences.”
It's time to start firing unvaccinated people: Trump fans are overdue for a lesson in consequences https://t.co/l0K7pLo9N1

Who knew that so many health care workers were hardcore Trump supporters? We probably could have guessed without looking that this was written by Amanda Marcotte:
Staffing shortages are a pain, especially during a pandemic, no doubt. But staffing shortages are a minor issue compared to the damage being caused by the unchecked spread of COVID-19, which is increasingly due to one cause: right-wingers who have made refusal to get vaccinated a culture war and identity politics issue. Unless such folks start tasting real consequences for their behavior, the U.S. is going to see another dark winter, as the virus continues to wreak havoc on our economy and health care system. Putting up with staffing shortages is a small price to pay to make sure that Trumpers — a class of people clearly unused to the idea that actions have consequences — actually start feeling real pressure to get vaccinated.
So firings are good because they purge companies of Trumpers. Does no one who writes these types of articles know how many people of color are unvaccinated? Are they all Trumpers? If we remember correctly, it was Trump supporters who were cheering on Operation Warp Speed while people like Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were asking who’s going to take the shot? Harris wasn’t about to.
How did the absolute LIE that Trump supporters are the most unvaccinated population even start?

You're going to feel really stupid when you find out who a large proportion of the unvaccinated are
— Walter (@LongBeachBum) September 29, 2021
This would disproportionately affect African Americans so I’m told that means it’s racist. 🤷♂️

Is @Salon suggesting that more than 7/10 black New Yorkers are Trump supporters?
— @Solidus (@GeorgeSears1972) September 29, 2021
Only 28% of Black New Yorkers are fully vaccinated.
— Muppet Pastor (@truth_vigilante) September 29, 2021
Don’t forget 60% of African Americans. They will love getting fired for this too. Equality at its best.

Ummm. Trump fans are not the only ones who are resistant to the COVID vaccine. Have you looked at the proportion of BIPOC that are vaccinated? You cool with firing BIPOC?

By Trump fans do you also mean black people? Because a lot of black people don’t trust the government either and aren’t getting the shot. So you want all those people to go hungry? Shame!
— Grimmz (@grimmz69) September 29, 2021
Remember back in February when former vaccine skeptic Harris went on Al Sharpton’s show on MSNBC to combat vaccine skepticism among communities of color?
Black and Latino vaccination rates are lagging white Republican vaccination rates considerably.
So yeah, by all means, start throwing those pink slips around, Karen.

Be advised the unvaccinated are Democrats, Independents, and Republicans. This precedent will hurt America, especially in recovery and economy.

Yes, people throwing out cheap lines like ‘You must be a Trump supporter’ at unvaccinated people show how little they believe in their side of the situation.

I took Trump's vaccine because he said it was safe, and I consider myself quite a big fan… what consequences should I expect?
— fractal_grid (@fractal_grid) September 29, 2021
You deserve this ratio

Quite possibly the worst thing I've seen on Twitter today, and the competition is tough.

Liberals are the slimiest, most vindictive bastards on the face of this earth. Wow, just wow.
— Samirah (@SameeraKhan) September 29, 2021
Marcotte continues:
There’s a lot of reasons conservatives cite for this refusal to vaccinate, though ultimately it all boils down to a desire to “own the liberals.” But a lot of this pettiness is intertwined with a right-wing bravado. To be blunt, white privilege has long shielded many conservatives from the concept of facing consequences for their actions.
White privilege? Seriously? Does Salon require writers to include that in every article?
