As Twitchy reported Tuesday night, both The Washington Post and The New York Times had journalists and pundits across the country hyperventilating into paper bags with a “bombshell” report on the eve of Attorney General William Barr’s testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Word was out that Robert Mueller had written a letter saying he had problems with Barr’s four-page summary of his report: not a problem with the content, mind you, but concerns that the media were misinterpreting it in their coverage.
Barr had addressed the story earlier in the day, saying that Mueller was concerned the press coverage, not the summary, was inaccurate.
…"But he said the press reporting was inaccurate. He said the press was reading too much into it. His concern focused on his explanation about why he did not reach a conclusion on obstruction and he wanted to put out more on that issue."

Maybe if Mueller had reached a conclusion on obstruction it would have been a much simpler matter to report. In any case, Barr poured more cold water on the reports that suggested Mueller thought his four-page letter was inaccurate and covering for the president.
Barr: I said "Bob what’s with the letter, why don’t you just pick up the phone and call me if there’s an issue?"

Barr: The letter's a bit snitty.
— Devlin Barrett (@DevlinBarrett) May 1, 2019
Hmm … why wouldn’t Mueller just pick up the phone if he had concerns over the press’s interpretation of Barr’s summary?
A phone call can't be leaked to the WP
— Flip (@Flipidy) May 1, 2019
Because weissman and Mueller can't leak a phone call as easily.

Because you can't leak a phone call to the press.

— Tee (@hedake1) May 1, 2019
Bob " Do you really think I would forgo a chance to leak before the hearing?"
— Lacey Lance (@Asa789) May 1, 2019
We all know why the letter was written. Mueller is agenda driven and wanted the media to get ahold of it. So unbelievably obvious.

Mueller sent the letter specifically to create this cloud.

Cause it's easier to sit on a letter and leak as convenient.
— MJJ (@jacktsnack) May 1, 2019
Remember, Mueller wrote the letter back in March, but it just happened to hit WaPo and the Times on the eve of Barr’s testimony.
Can’t leak a phone call to your buddies at the WaPo and pick selected sentences to make it look much more aggressive than the actual letter.

And Mueller thought to himself, Bill you will understand when my letter leaks.
— Kevin from JAX (@markevjax) May 1, 2019
The letter wasn't for Barr. It was for everyone else.
— Blue Sky (@BlueSky95031426) May 1, 2019
Barr: So did i get something wrong? Mueller: No. Barr: So whats the problem? Mueller: Nobody likes me anymore. Barr: ………
