CNN reporter argues that Beto O'Rourke's dopey travel blog 'drips with white male privilege'

As Twitchy has reported, Beto O’Rourke, who lost his Senate bid in Texas to Ted Cruz, is doing what the people in the business call a “soft launch” of his 2020 presidential campaign.

He hasn’t said he’s running, but he has live streamed his dental cleaning on Instagram, and now he’s off on a solo road trip of the country to “clear his head” and “have some adventure.”

There’s already a fantastic parody of O’Rourke’s travel journal, but CNN senior political reporter Nia-Malika Henderson isn’t amused by the whole affair, saying it “drips with white male privilege.”

She writes:

O’Rourke, 46, we are told, is “Obama, but white,” because of his fundraising prowess — he raised nearly $80 million in his loss to Sen. Ted Cruz. He skateboards! He listens! He connects on the internet!

And Jack Kerouac-style, he roams around, jobless (does he not need a job?) to find himself and figure out if he wants to lead the free world. This is a luxury no woman or even minority in politics could ever have.

But O’Rourke, tall, handsome, white and male, has this latitude, to be and do anything. His privilege even allows him to turn a loss to the most despised candidate of the cycle into a launching pad for a White House run.

Stacey Abrams, a Yale-trained lawyer, couldn’t do this.

We’re sure Abrams could skateboard if she practiced a little bit.

We’ve got to admit, it’s fun to watch the media jockey to figure out which horse they’re going to back this early — it’s only mid-January and we’ve already had three or four 2020 announcements (we’ve already lost count) with plenty more to come.

So, is O’Rourke exercising his white male privilege by hopping in the car to find himself while a swooning media dissects his diary?

She’s not a Democrat, she’s an unbiased CNN political reporter.

“The future is female,” remember.
