What? Sen. Ted Cruz wasn't told to 'f**k off' after asking to be put on Nine Inch Nails' guest list?

We saw reports of this floating around last night but didn’t think much of it — and we weren’t buying the idea that Sen. Ted Cruz had asked to be put on the guest list for a Nine Inch Nails concert … that bit just sounded off. But it made the news:

And that story was picked up by, well, everyone.

A day later, Cruz has taken to Twitter to pour cold water on the story. Nine Inch Nails bandleader Trent Reznor was just joking at the concert stop in Texas.

To all the gullible reporters who are “reporting” that I asked to be on the guest list at a Nine Inch Nails concert: uh, no, NIN is not my music taste. He was clearly joking. And for the record, I also didn’t “drink all his beer” the last time…but I would have! #FakeNews https://t.co/ZNr292SCVl

Credit to Cruz for correctly referring to the band as NIN.

The New York Daily News reports that, according to a clip from the concert uploaded to Reddit, Reznor told the audience that he’d told Cruz to “f**k off” when he asked to be put on the guest list. As if no one had got the joke by that time, Reznor added that Cruz had been put on the guest list years earlier and “he … drank all the beer, and was just a pain in the ass to be around.”
