President Trump on Saturday evening sent out another “witch hunt” tweet which of course stirred up the nest of journalists still working. Trump argues that his poll numbers would be higher if not for Robert Mueller’s investigation.
While my (our) poll numbers are good, with the Economy being the best ever, if it weren’t for the Rigged Russian Witch Hunt, they would be 25 points higher! Highly conflicted Bob Mueller & the 17 Angry Democrats are using this Phony issue to hurt us in the Midterms. No Collusion!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 15, 2018
Tell you what; we’re just going to assume there’s some miscommunication here. TIME correspondent Phil Elliott tweeted that the probe had yielded guilty pleas and convictions, which it has, through referrals to SDNY.
This investigation began in July of 2016 — and based on facts that keep yielding guilty pleas and convictions https://t.co/uEESKCIHDH https://t.co/aPVov33Yx7
— Phil Elliott (@Philip_Elliott) September 15, 2018
But is Elliott suggesting any of those guilty pleas and convictions disprove Trump’s claim of no collusion?
Dear Mr. Journalist, which pleas/convictions involved the crimes of collusion? You know what the investigation was set up to find and investigate.
Looking forward to your reply.
— AgentX (@Agent_XXXX) September 15, 2018
Here are the convictions/ pleas so far https://t.co/LjIB9hqWhX
— Phil Elliott (@Philip_Elliott) September 15, 2018
It was a simple question Mr Journalist. How many were for Russian collusion?
— AgentX (@Agent_XXXX) September 15, 2018
If you're looking for "collusion" as a stand-alone crime, you're missing the point https://t.co/qZOGz13VKq
— Phil Elliott (@Philip_Elliott) September 15, 2018
The link to Reuters was suspect, but linking to Vox? Hard pass.
Way to move the goal post sport. And nice straw man. You folks in the media have been histrionically screeching for 18 months our democracy is under attack. The investigation was opened to look into the Trump campaign colluding with Russian to throw the election.
— AgentX (@Agent_XXXX) September 16, 2018

A probe into Trump was opened… But never publicized or confirmed… Unlike the Clinton investigation, which was re-opened right before Election Day… To help Hillary Clinton… Got it.
— Phil Elliott (@Philip_Elliott) September 16, 2018
You still wear your "I'm With Her tee-shirt" to bed every night? Actually, never interviewing her under oath, having a subordinate declare her not guilty before interviewing, and letting her walk from things others would go to jail for were done to help Hillary.
— AgentX (@Agent_XXXX) September 16, 2018
Let’s just say there’s a ratio party in Elliott’s feed Saturday night and he’s trying to mingle and serve up nothing-burgers.
Yet, pleas and convictions have absolutely nothing to do with campaign collusion…its definitely a witchhunt
— Boxer Dad (@Augieboy) September 15, 2018
I'm old enough to remember when this was about 'Russian collusion'.
— Kirk Widlund❌ (@KAW710CO) September 15, 2018
Is this the ratio you were hoping for??
— Gary Brown (@GaryBrown74) September 15, 2018
I just wish people would look at facts, not political talking points. To say the Mueller probe is garbage makes you set aside a whole host of court events https://t.co/LjIB9hqWhX
— Phil Elliott (@Philip_Elliott) September 15, 2018
Is it just us, or is kind of funny that a TIME correspondent keeps linking to Reuters over and over and over and over again to prove his case?
Give the poor guy a break – evidently the only job he could get was with Time.
— Nick Jenkins (@Pepyssam) September 16, 2018
Guilty pleas for process or non crimes that happened years ago and have nothing to do with the President or the stated purpose of the witchhunt/fishing expedition. https://t.co/pOa1VISE24
— Mayor McSnark ?? (@DailyPamphlet) September 15, 2018
Yet, all totally un-related to Donald Trump and his campaign.

Almost none of your comment is based in truth.
There is still nothing – zero, nada – on the Russian collusion and Trump that was the listed reason for the #MuellerWitchHunt.#JournalismIsDead Leftist agenda is all. https://t.co/uQCcytc3AW— Liberal, progressive, socialist, same (@Melvin_Udall_) September 15, 2018
Really? The investigation was regarding Russian interference in our elections and so far the only facts produced show that @HillaryClinton's campaign illegally paid Russian intelligence agents to make up dirt on @realDonaldTrump. Aside from that there has been nothing…
— Red State Mafia (@RedStateMafia) September 15, 2018
Convictions for collusion? That’s what this is about right?
— JRP (@JRPSD) September 15, 2018
Sorry but if you have any credibility as a journalist you would acknowledge many if not all of the guilty pleas/convictions have nothing to do w/ PDJT and Russian collusion to get elected.

Convictions that have to do with the rampant corruption in DC. Not with Russia collusion or the Trump administration. But “journalists” like yourself don’t need to bother with the details.
— Annais Bond (@AnnaisBond) September 15, 2018
Please detail all the pleas and convictions that are directly or even tangentially related to collusion between the Trump Campaign and the Kremlin. I’d like to read those court documents. Can you provide a link please?
— ??Good ol' Matty P?? (@MattyP57) September 15, 2018
What conviction is a result of collusion?
— BearNJ (@jimbearNJ) September 15, 2018
This tweet is extremely misleading – none of the guilty pleas and convictions so far have anything to do with the campaign. And one wonders why 77% of Americans don't trust the media.
— Lee Hernly (@LeeHernly) September 15, 2018
This is a false statement that a self-respecting journalist in a "fake-news" environment should know better than to make. The convictions have absolutely nothing to do with the media-pushed and enabled narrative of treasonous collusion with Russia to steal the 2016 election.
— STILL MAD? (@rescuemomoffive) September 16, 2018

The “convictions” resulted from absolutely nothing remotely related to Trump/Trump campaign.
— CNN isn’t news (@JackHout2017) September 15, 2018
I guess you missed the story that said that the Manafort plea has nothing to do with Trump. But keep doing you, for as long as your rag survives!
— RanD'oh! (@randoh9) September 15, 2018
Technicalities schmechnicalities, eh? Guilty pleas about actions during Obama reign. Convictions for what was done during prior administrations. Regardless, still a nothingburger regarding Trump
— BillieCotter (@BillieCotter) September 16, 2018
This is a false statement that a self-respecting journalist in a "fake-news" environment should know better than to make. The convictions have absolutely nothing to do with the media-pushed and enabled narrative of treasonous collusion with Russia to steal the 2016 election. https://t.co/2ffKDh2ac8
— Mollie (@MZHemingway) September 15, 2018
You do not know that. Mueller has retained these cases in the SC while pushing others to the FBI.
— Andrew Maier (@AmaierIRL) September 15, 2018
Well, OBVIOUSLY if evidence is ever produced of treasonous collusion with Russia to steal an election, then evidence would have been produced. I'm not going to apologize for waiting for such evidence before embracing that claim.
— Mollie (@MZHemingway) September 15, 2018
Molly, you can't set aside the court records here and what appears to be either a lack of vetting, judgment or hearing when the Trump team was warned about its associates. To say this has nothing to do with Trump is incorrect. The SC is turning up real problems.
— Phil Elliott (@Philip_Elliott) September 15, 2018
How come the SC isn't investigating the Russian collusion between the Hillary campaign and Obama DOJ in the manufacture of the dossier and it's use to spy on and undermine the Trump campaign and Presidency?
— Braden-Plorable (@BraderGatorNYC) September 16, 2018
The dossier wasn't solely the product of a research document that, it must be noted, began with GOP funding https://t.co/R04RqXPHp2
— Phil Elliott (@Philip_Elliott) September 16, 2018
Oh man, if Elliott’s going there, then we have to interject because whenever people try to connect the dossier in any way with the Washington Free Beacon, which initially hired Fusion GPS, the story gets twisted: the Free Beacon dumped the project long before the fake dossier was started; that only began after the Hillary campaign and the DNC started paying the bills.
Carry on.
Phil, have you or anyone at Time taken money from Fusion GPS? Are you or anyone at Time the reporters who bribed FBI agents/officials mentioned by Horowitz in his last IG report?
— Magnum_CK (Gold Behind The Walls) (@Magnum_CK) September 16, 2018
For someone "writing in his 8th election cycle", you would expect @Philip_Elliott would have a better grasp of the facts. So much for practice makes perfect, or at least adequate. @ScotsFyre @PolitiBunny

— Chris Cunningham (@slowmohockey) September 15, 2018

— E. (@lnTransit) September 15, 2018
Right. MSM always says "convictions" and "crimes" but they never say for what. Like, x number of people associated with Trump have "plead guilty" but they never finish the sentence. No collusion.
— Super Elite Brent (@BHVT) September 15, 2018
@philip_elliot and that's the problem , it's very stalinesque, 'show me the man, I'll show you the crime'..none of these have shown collusion with the russians…this is a despicable moment in our history
— david bradshaw (@davidbr50132863) September 16, 2018
Trump is guilty because people who are linked to him or his campaign are indicted and plea out for things completely unrelated to Trump.
Makes sense.
And this somehow justifies going after more Trump associates for other stuff from 10 years ago
— Space Force Cadet (@alphabaker7) September 15, 2018
All the proof in the world couldn’t sway the MSM off their collusion narrative.
— Aardvark Ratnick DO, MS (@bubba_jameson) September 15, 2018
I’m amazed that these JOURNALISTS defend or non-report on a story when it could actually further their career if they just did their jobs
— Evets (@TheofficialGump) September 15, 2018
Mollie, it’s no use.
The left has made up their mind that they will manipulate as many people as they can and whip up dangerous hate to correct the election of Trump.
The people who read this and agree have no desire to understand the facts.
It’s get Trump at all cost.
— Chunkyness (@ChunkyTWshngtn) September 15, 2018
Will this nonsense ever end. Or this the new norm
— Gene Evans (@GeneEva25224979) September 15, 2018
Hold on …
The statement is true. You have imposed a limitation the tweeter did not, that the pleas and conviction directly involve the conspiracy.
— Adam Richardson (@ajrichar) September 15, 2018
We’ll allow it; like we said up top, it’s that Elliott was replying to the Trump tweet that made it sound as though he were tying guilty pleas to collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign.
Maybe TIME will publish that evidence very soon.
