We should have expected it, certainly, but it still came as a shock to find people using such a solemn occasion as the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks to spin it somehow as a reflection on current President Donald Trump. Even the #NeverTrump crowd should be mortified.
Trump didn’t tweet about the 9/11 anniversary first today, complained CNN’s Chris Cillizza. MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough wrote an op-ed arguing that “Trump is damaging the dream of America more than any terrorist attack ever could,” accompanied by a photo of the wreckage of the Twin Towers.
Michelle Malkin let them have it.
People hating more on President Trump than on murderous Islamic jihadists today are soul-damaged.#September11

“Soul-damaged” is such an eloquent way of putting it.

Yeah, Scarborough really outdid himself.
Absolutely. I'm not really a Trump fan, but the irrational garbage spewed by some of the haters is sickening. https://t.co/U3WHvK2wSj

There’s a hero for you, Nike.
As Twitchy reported, at least Scarborough attempted to walk back his take a bit:
On September 11th, I’ll read the column again and think about whether I could have said the same thing in a way less offensive to Trump supporters on September 11th.
— Joe Scarborough (@JoeNBC) September 11, 2018
I'm not a Trump supporter. Don't give two shits about your former bestie.
It's that you denigrated the memory of the people who died on 9/11.
You nutjob. https://t.co/XFW4lnZ4HN
