This will be a short post, but we just can’t let this one go. We’ve already told you how Attorney General Jeff Sessions set off a social media firestorm by telling the National Sheriffs Association that the office of sheriff is “a critical part of the Anglo-American heritage of law enforcement.”
Which it is. Lawyers and historians both know this; Barack Obama knows this; but Ellie Shechet over at Jezebel apparently doesn’t, filing her piece in Jezebel’s “Barf Bag” roundup with the tag, “HEY LOOK OVER HERE I’M AN ACTUAL NAZI.”

Today, Jeff Sessions reminded us — as he has done many, many times before — that he is a proud white supremacist. This doesn’t do a lot to blunt the lunacy of the following quote: “The office of sheriff is a critical part of the Anglo-American heritage of law enforcement,” the Attorney General of the United States told the National Sheriffs’ Association. It sure is! And what a stunning heritage.
Hey Jeff,??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

The ACLU was among those triggered by the idea that the job of sheriff, or “shire reeve,” came to America from England.
Yes, our Attorney General just said this. Out loud. https://t.co/ldXCgCYarx

Touting "anglo-american heritage" of law enforcement is paying homage to the slave hunters and slave patrols in the south.
This is beyond repulsive.https://t.co/L7Es3WCrL1

I can only hope that this remark will provoke others to research that heritage of law enforcement, examine the history of policing in these United States, and consider that what Jeff Sessions labels “erosion” is may actually be progress. Nothing to add. https://t.co/xpoDWJQq2s

Nothing to add — that’s his narrative and he’s sticking to it.
