School cancels 'triggering' father-daughter dance, citing new 'gender neutral' guidelines from the DOE

The New York Post is reporting Saturday that an elementary school on Staten Island has scrapped its traditional father-daughter dance this coming weekend over new Transgender and Gender Nonconforming Student Guidelines from the Department of Education.

In a March 2017 policy update, the Department of Education ordered schools to eliminate any gender-based activities unless they serve a clear educational purpose.

“We have clear guidelines in place that require school-related events to be inclusive of all students,” said DOE spokeswoman Miranda Barbot.

“Father-daughter dances inherently leave people out. Not just because of transgender status, just life in general,” said Jared Fox, the DOE’s LGBT community liaison. “These can be really uncomfortable and triggering events.”
