For some reason, PBS NewsHour had Alec Baldwin on Friday to comment on Harvey Weinstein and Hollywood’s culture of “open secrets” when it comes to sexual harassment.

Jezebel reports that Baldwin acknowledged in the interview that everyone had heard “for decades” the rumor that Weinstein had raped actress Rose McGowan, adding that “nothing was done.”

However, he also got himself into hot water with the #MeToo crowd and #ROSEARMY by adding, “What happened was Rose McGowan took a payment of $100,000 and settled her case with him. It was for Rose McGowan to prosecute that case.”
Told you everyone knew. No one cared. Men ran the show. Women toed the line. No more. #ROSEARMY https://t.co/ixjnndLnEH

Goblins in Hollywood act as though they were not part of the problem. An industry that sells sex, murder, guns, and shocked at bad behavior. https://t.co/yaUbq11rWK

We need to be the change. This is so beyond intolerable. No one should be able to get away with such horrible acts, with people being aware https://t.co/cqI3f28mJc

If you took a settlement, wouldn't that indicate that something actually did happen, and not the other way around?! People are feeling guilty because they knew all these years and didn't help.. So all they can do now is make excuses. @rosemcgowan https://t.co/3l2DmTPtbw

Baldwin apparently took note of the backlash and announced that he’d be suspending his Twitter account due to the “current climate.”
1- it is w some degree of sadness that I will suspend posting on this a TWITTER account for a period of and in the current climate.
— AlecBaldwin (@AlecBaldwin) November 4, 2017
2- It was never my intention, in my public statements, to “blame the victim” in the many sexual assault cases that have emerged recently
— AlecBaldwin (@AlecBaldwin) November 4, 2017
3- I simply posited that the settlement of such cases certainly delayed justice, though I am fully aware that those settlements were …
— AlecBaldwin (@AlecBaldwin) November 4, 2017
4- entered into w the understanding that settlement is wise, intimidated into believing so.
— AlecBaldwin (@AlecBaldwin) November 4, 2017
5- my heart goes out to all such victims. My goal is to do better in all things related to gender equality.
Au revoir.— AlecBaldwin (@AlecBaldwin) November 4, 2017
How soon until Baldwin is back online? Celebrities quit Twitter like they move to Canada when their candidate loses.
