Thanks to Meryl Streep, Americans now are clear that neither mixed martial arts nor football is an art, but the nation might be in for the most artsy Super Bowl of recent years. Lady Gaga has said her halftime show will promote her passion for inclusion and touch on her familiar themes of “love and compassion and kindness,” while many who’ve seen Budweiser’s spot consider it a not-so-subtle dig at President Trump.
If that sounds like fun, wait until Hulu runs its spot, which it’s using to promote its adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s 1985 dystopian novel, “The Handmaid’s Tale,” which is currently burning up the best sellers chart right behind George Orwell’s “1984.”

The series will offer some updated touches to the story of Offred, who lives in a totalitarian future where she is “one of the caste of women forced into sexual servitude as a last desperate attempt to repopulate a devastated world.”

Incredibly portentous at this time? The riveting, frightening, dystopian Atwood book is now a series. I can not wait. @HandmaidsOnHulu https://t.co/qpqZWCkfF3

Portentous? Hulu announced the series last April. It’s a collaboration between Hulu and MGM Television and Digital Group, whose president is “The Bible” and “The Apprentice” producer Mark Burnett, who introduced President Trump this week at the National Prayer Breakfast. So no, the series was not rushed into production following the election by any stretch.
But this?
