'This isn't over': Judge rules cops' malicious prosecution claims against Marilyn Mosby can move forward

Pardon us if this news item isn’t exactly farm-fresh, but it nicely completes the trifecta that also includes 1) Tuesday’s news that a judge threw out Ahmed “Clock Boy” Mohamed’s defamation lawsuit against Ben Shapiro, Glenn Beck, Fox News, and others, and 2) today’s news that StemExpress has dropped its suit against the Center for Medical Progress, which was responsible for those undercover Planned Parenthood videos exposing for-profit sales of body parts.

On Friday, a federal judge ruled that five of the six police officers charged in the death of Freddie Gray could move forward with their lawsuit against Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby. The officers have brought claims of malicious prosecution, defamation, and invasion of privacy against Mosby, reports the Baltimore Sun.

Three of the six officers charged in connection with Gray’s death were found not guilty of all charges, and prosecutors dropped all charges against the other three last July. Gray’s death in police custody touched off extensive rioting, looting, and arson in the city — enough so that Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan appealed (unsuccessfully) to the Obama administration for FEMA disaster aid to assist in the cleanup, estimated at nearly $20 million.

An attorney for one officer said that “barring a reversal on appeal, the ruling means the officers’ attorneys will begin the discovery stage, which includes deposing Mosby and others involved in the investigation.”
