Just desserts: Bureaucrat who dogged Christian owners of family bakery rejected by Oregon voters

As anxious as everyone was for it to finally be over, the 2016 election is the gift that keeps on giving. After the initial shock of Donald Trump’s win passed, America began to realize just how large the ripple effect really was, as seemingly entrenched political players like Nancy Pelosi found themselves fighting to retain their power.

More than a week after the big day, Fox News’ Todd Starnes has one more bit of election fallout to share.

You might remember the story from 2015, when the husband-and-wife owners of Sweet Cakes by Melissa in Oregon were ordered to pay $135,000 in emotional damages to a lesbian couple who claimed they felt “mentally raped, dirty and shameful” after the bakers refused to make them a wedding cake.

The fine, which was the work of Brad Avakian, commissioner of Oregon’s Bureau of Labor and Industries, is a done deal, but so are Avakian’s aspirations to become Oregon’s secretary of state.

Yeah, well, about that …

Starnes reports:

Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian was defeated by Republican Dennis Richardson in his bid to be Secretary of State. It’s the first time a Republican has been elected to a statewide office in Oregon since 2002. So consider this – Avakian was too liberal for what is arguably one of the most liberal states in the country.
