Hottest of all hot takes: Hillary Clinton not only won, but joined the elite class of 'more-than-president'

Here’s one way for Hillary Clinton supporters to console themselves (still), and it goes far beyond telling themselves that their candidate won the popular vote.

Writing for Lena Dunham’s newsletter, Lenny, author Virginia Heffernan goes for broke, assuring Hillary’s broken-hearted devotees that not only did Clinton win the election, but that she likely would have proved to be too powerful a figure to be constrained within the confines of the Oval Office.

How powerful? Heffernan writes that Clinton is maybe “an idea, a world-historical heroine, light itself.”

… The presidency is too small for her. She belongs to a much more elite class of Americans, the more-than-presidents. Neil Armstrong, Martin Luther King Jr., Alexander Fucking Hamilton.

Hillary Clinton did everything right in this campaign, and she won more votes than her opponent did. She won. She cannot be faulted, criticized, or analyzed for even one more second. Instead, she will be decorated as an epochal heroine far too extraordinary to be contained by the mere White House.

That was a close one, then. America nearly stuck her in a dead-end job that was way beneath her. How far beneath her? Heffernan concludes that Hillary Clinton is, indeed, the Greek goddess Athena incarnate.
