Despite a gloomy forecast for Pepperell, Mass., Monday morning that prompted the town to cancel its Memorial Day parade, a group of veterans assembled and marched the parade route anyway to an audience of only a police escort and a couple of news cameras.

“Although we weren’t exactly prepared for it, we are very proud of our Pepperell veterans who decided to march the parade route this morning even though the parade was cancelled,” wrote the Pepperell Police Department on its Facebook page.
