An afternoon press conference to address the reported shootings at Camp Shelby both yesterday and today led to an admission that there was no confirmation that shots had actually been fired at soldiers at the training facility.

The man taken into custody today, Alfred Baria, will be facing charges, even though no firearm was found in his pickup truck, which he claims he can make backfire on demand.

ATF tells me the suspect had a 6-inch piece of PVC pipe, painted EOD green, in the floorboard of his truck. It was not explosive.
— Therese Apel (@TRex21) August 5, 2015
Atf's role was to determine whether device was explosive, they determined that it was not.
— Therese Apel (@TRex21) August 5, 2015
ATF: PVC pipe was inside the floorboard, sealed with end caps. Agents are obligated to treat it as explosive. Luckily it wasn't.

ATF designated task force from Biloxi x-rayed the device. "It wasn't what we would call an explosive device that we could prosecute."

"He more than made it, he painted it. He wanted it to look like" a pipe bomb.
