“Doonesbury” creator Gary Trudeau, 33rd recipient of the George Polk Career Award, received his award at a luncheon Friday afternoon at the Roosevelt Hotel in Manhattan, where he observed that the cartoonists at French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo had “wandered into the realm of hate speech” before an attack by Islamic extremists in January that killed 12.
