Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has said that he would allow an open amendment process on legislation to approve construction of the Keystone XL pipeline. Given that opening, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) took to the Senate floor Tuesday afternoon to discuss his amendment to the Keystone XL bill, which asks legislators if they agree that climate change is having an impact on the planet.
The American people need to know whether Congress is listening to the overwhelming majority of scientists when it comes to climate change.
— Bernie Sanders (@SenSanders) January 13, 2015
At least 37 American scientific organizations and national academies all agree climate change is real and is caused by human activities.
— Bernie Sanders (@SenSanders) January 13, 2015
Scientists have been virtually unanimous in saying that climate change is real… do members of Congress believe the scientists or not?
— Bernie Sanders (@SenSanders) January 13, 2015
Let’s settle the science once and for all: by voting on it.

@christackett @NaomiAKlein So, if Congress decides climate change isn’t happening, then what? Earth will stop warming bc they’re saying so?
