Josh Earnest: Out: 'radical Islam'; In: 'violent extremism based on a warped view of Islam'

The promise to be “the most transparent administration in history” continues to be a recurring headache for representatives of the White House. Press secretary Josh Earnest was grilled Monday over the president’s absence from the massive unity march in Paris, and the questions continued Tuesday. CBS News White House correspondent Mark Knoller reports that, despite further questioning on exactly what the president was doing on Sunday and other matters, Earnest confessed that he could not “unpack” that information.

Earnest was able to “unpack” the government’s discomfort with the phrase “radical Islam,” echoing the policy that State Department deputy spokesperson Marie Harf struggled to explain to the press yesterday.

It’s not extremism, it’s a warped view of Islam. Accuracy is important.
