Democrats are taking a chance with this one as the midterms approach. Do they cancel student loan debt, essentially buying the votes of those who carry it? Or do they cancel it and risk a backlash from the working class whose taxes will go to pay off the degrees of college graduates? Most Democrats we’ve heard from seem to think the first option is more likely.
The NAACP says it’s time to cancel student loan debt, and as an example of someone who’d benefit from having their loan forgiven, they’ve picked Rep. Ilhan Omar, because that’s sure to go over well with everybody.
“It’s time.” ~ @Ilhan, who said she still carries student loan debt. #CancelStudentDebt pic.twitter.com/u20rurTMqw

She’s got a crowd of, what, five people with her?
Isn’t this a conflict of interest: a sitting member of Congress voting to eliminate her own debt? And this is on top of the many other problems with this terrible idea. https://t.co/hZG64RNV24

It’s also deeply unpopular outside of their own political base. But they are getting increasingly desperate even to get their base voters to show up in November.

A person with her income still carrying that debt isn’t making good financial decisions for themselves, let alone for us

She makes almost $200,000 a year and in 2020 her campaign paid her husband’s consulting firm more than $1,000,000. If she has student loans still it’s by choice. Kinda gross she’s calling for single mom waitresses to pick up her tab. https://t.co/cn5hRhl02Y

Not debt is cancelled. It is transferred to taxpayers.

She makes more money than most of Americans, but wants taxpayers to pay off her loans.

If she has student loan debt, despite her bloated congressional salary, she obviously didn’t learn to manage her finances in college.
Why should the American people let her manage our money too?
— Emarzano (@Emarzano1) April 28, 2022
Since she is directly affected by the proposed legislation, she, and anyone else who owes student loans THEY took out should be forbidden from voting on the legislation.
She is a corrupt fraud looking out for her own self interests.

She makes $174,000 per year. If she still has student debt that’s her problem, not her constituents’—the vast majority of whom do not have student debt.

Get a loan, become politicians, nudge your constituents into voting for a bill that cancels your loan.
To be fair, this is great stuff. It is unfair, almost diabolical. But to actually find people dumb enough to believe her. Congrats.

She's very wealthy and is paid $174,000 per year. Maybe the lender should garnish her wages. It's what would happen to us mere mortals.

It’s interesting that the NAACP is using her to promote their message. With her, I’m surprised she hasn’t blamed her student debt on the Jews or Israel.

This country hasn’t given her enough yet.

Judging from the replies, we’re all for the NAACP and everyone else making Omar the face of student debt cancelation. Please do this.
